Makoto's birthday meant one thing at Iwatobi High School: girls surrounding him and showering him with endless amounts of gifts hoping that the world sweetest man would choose one of them to be probably the world's luckiest girl. This was the one time of year that got Haru irritated beyond reason for probably the pettiest reason. The reason being that his time to celebrate his best friend's birthday was cut short and that Haru always felt his gifts were insignificant. It didn't help that all the gifts that were given to him weren't cheap. It ranged from Laudree's macarons, expensive chocolates, fruits, or just baked goods from the more well-known stores around their area or were home made. Each gift had a heart felt letter written carefully with a subtle confession. The confession being the part that made him want to lash out. But thanks to many years of perfecting his nonchalant face, it never showed.
This year was no exception. As he was leaving the school, he had hoped that his best friend would find a way through the girls and walk him home on their usual route. But by the looks of it, his hoping was all in vain. Makoto was swamped. It was nearly impossible to even see him the moment class ended. How was this even possible?! Honestly at this point, he was completely fed up and stormed his way home. As he walked home, he couldn't help but to stare at the ocean. It was here that he started to calm down from the sound of the waves. He couldn't help but to let out a little sigh when he was close to his house. Maybe what he did was a bit selfish. Another sigh and he willed himself to find his way into town.
